We often hear about the thriving sex industries of Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines but Australia has a sex industry too - some of it legal and some operating in the shadows.
In just about every suburban newspaper in Australia, you find advertising for massage parlours - which are in reality, illegal brothels. But police seemingly don't have the time or resources to investigate them - and local councils are all but powerless to shut them down. The experts say they prey on illegal workers - mostly from Asia - and there are allegations that some immigration agents are coercing women into working in illegal brothels, in return for work or residency visas.
