Doctors, nurses and people in high-risk groups will be the first to receive vaccination against the A(H1N1) influenza virus when supplies become available, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Thursday.
The first two million doses to be imported will meet the World Health Organisation’s international standard, Mr Abhisit said.
"The government cannot order adequate doses for everyone in the country yet as there are many people in the high-risk group," he said.
Government Pharmaceutical Organisation director Vithit Attavejchakul said the two million doses would be given to three groups - the first, physicians, nurses and other health personnel; the second, people with chronic and congenital diseases; and third, the country's top executives.
Vaccine producers would not be responsible for the side effects of the vaccine, and all countries must accept this agreement, Dr Vithit said.
The Asean Regional Forum in Phuket will look for new measures to deal with the swine flu outbreak, the prime minister said.
He did not expect the issue of Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya being charged by police with committing an act of terrorism over last year's airport seizures would affect the Asean meetings, which begin in Phuket tomorrow and continue until July 23.
