A directive signed by Interior Minister Sar Kheng, deputy prime minister obtained by DAP News Cambodia on Wednesday orders that the holders of fake import certificates and fake license plates must be detained, arrested and sent to court.
All competent authorities must cooperate with the provincial and city courts “to judge the lawsuit complaints urgently,” Sar Kheng said in his directive.
Traffic police authorities must take action against non-licensed vehicles and those caught must purchase a genuine license plate before being allowed back on the road, he said. Local authorities at provincial and municipal levels must enforce the traffic law and send officials from the Department of Public Works and Transport and customs officials to deal with non-valid unlicensed vehicles.
“Local police authorities must fine owners of vehicles who do not wear helmets and rear view mirrors. They need to buy those items according to the law,” he stressed.
Fines will increase over time, doubling after 30 days, tripling after 60 days, and non-payers sent to court after 90 days. “Local police authorities need to send cases to court to,” Sar Kheng said.
“Competent authorities must take action against local officials who made slow process in providing services to people,” he added
“We need to enhance further the strengthening the land traffic law and must educate about it more.”
