TOKYO, Nov 7 (AFP) - Japan's new Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on Saturday hailed Washington's latest efforts to engage Myanmar as beneficial for the entire Mekong region.
"America's greater interest in Myanmar... will benefit the Mekong region as a whole," Hatoyama told a news conference after talks with the leaders of Southeast Asia's five Mekong River nations, including Myanmar.
"America is gaining greater interest in the region and we welcome it."
