Good relations between Thailand and Cambodia turned sour after Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, chairman of Puea Thai Party, made a visit to the neighbouring country, the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Saturday.
Regarding the remark by ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in his open letter issued on Friday that the government was using internal political conflict to pressure Cambodia, Mr Abhisit said the problem was not caused by his government.
It was because the Cambodian government issued a statement appointing Thaksin as an economic advisor, he said.
“Thakin is a Thai citizen. He should realize that what he had done is damaging the country’, Mr Abhisit said.
He insisted that the diplomatic retaliation against Cambodia is not too harsh.
