Arlington Career Center English-as-a-Second-Language teacher Ann Kennedy was one of 40 teachers from around the United States selected by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the International Research and Exchanges Board to participate in the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program.
The program provides professional-development opportunities to secondary-school teachers from around the world.
Kennedy will spend two weeks in Cambodia in the spring of 2010. During her trip, Kennedy will discuss teaching practices and related educational issues with the host school and with a wider community of educators.
The group of U.S. teachers also will visit with local schools, parent committees and non-governmental organizations, and serve as guest speakers on U.S. education and culture. They will also team-teach at their host schools, and conduct workshops on teaching methods and curriculum design.
Prior to the U.S. teachers’ visit to Cambodia, their international counterparts will travel to the United States to take part in a six-week professional-development program at four universities.
