Human Rights Party (HRP) called on the donor countries that were willing to help Cambodian people to monitor the government achievement that it always makes promise when the meeting of consultative group (CG) approached.In its statement dated on Dec 10, 2009, which was coincided with the 61st anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, HRP claimed that when CG meeting was approaching, Cambodian government was always showing its concern about laws, by promising to do this and that. However, after receiving the aid, the government always ignored those promises.
In the statement, HRP also suggested the donors to follow up some problems occurring in Cambodia such as the improvement of freedom of speech by urging Cambodian government to amend some laws restricting the rights of members of parliament and to reform judicial system so that the system became independent. The anti-corruption law had to be enacted as soon as possible, and it had to be applied proactively. Moreover, the forced eviction had to be ended, and in case that the development affected people’s property, suitable compensation had to be given to the victims. Besides, the discrimination against Khmer Kampuchea Krom people living in Cambodia was a must to end, and rights should be given to all of them as they were given to Cambodian people.
