Khattiya Sawasdipol (L) vs Anupong Paochinda (R)Bangkok Post
The army was not trying to defame Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, alias Seh Daeng, by suspending him from duty, as it was done in line with the regulations, national army chief Anupong Paojinda said on Wednesday.
"There is no hidden motive or personal agenda concerning the army specialist's suspension from duty," Gen Anupong said.
Seh Daeng was accused of meeting fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen in Cambodia on Nov 13 without seeking permission from the army to leave the country.
He also took former para-military rangers to join the anti-government rally of the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) late last year.
