On Wednesday last week, the ‘International Forum on Mekong Environment and Livelihoods: The Changing Situation and Trans-boundary Implications’ was held at Can Tho University in the Vietnam Delta. The forum brought together 160 participants consisting of representatives of Vietnamese authorities from southern Vietnam, academics and civil society organizations from all Mekong countries, and international civil society groups.
Please find attached the Forum Report, which summarizes the presentations and discussions. Many issues were raised about the impacts by mainstream dams on the Vietnam Delta and the wider basin. The papers prepared for this meeting will be published as a proceedings.
The event was organized by the Can Tho People’s Committee, Can Tho University and the Vietnam Rivers Network, with support from the Save the Mekong Coalition, Oxfam Australia and TERRA.
