South-east Asian leaders gathered in Thailand on Sunday to discuss how to derive mutual benefit from the Mekong River amid concerns that dam construction is contributing to a major drought.
Representatives from China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand joined the meeting of the Mekong River Commission for talks on navigation, flood management, hydropower, irrigation and fisheries.
They meet as the Mekong - which provides food, transport and irrigation for 65 million people in the six countries - has dropped to its lowest level in nearly 20 years.
