MCKEESPORT (KDKA) ― On a beautiful spring day in 1970, Ohio National Guard troops opened fire on the campus of Kent State University.
One of those who died was Alison Krause of Churchill.
In all, four were killed, nine wounded in a 13-second volley of gunfire."It's an unsolved murder, as far as I'm concerned," Howard Ives, of McKeesport, said.
On May 4th, 1970, Ives, long-haired like most of his fellow students, was a junior at Kent State.
"I'm not saying that the students were totally faultless - there were a lot of things that led up to it," he said.
President Nixon had announced the US move into Cambodia. Someone torched the campus ROTC building and the National Guard was called in.
