Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a private meeting with
his Cambodian counterpart, Samdech Hun Sen, on April 2, as soon as he
arrived in Phnom Penh for the 20 th ASEAN Summit.
Both PMs said they are pleased with how their friendship has
blossomed and the way both two countries have cooperated in the recent
past. They agreed to boost bilateral links in the future, especially in
economics, trade, and investment.
They also agreed to jointly organise the third Vietnam-Cambodia Investment Promotion Conference, scheduled to be held in Vietnam in June 2012.
As 2012 marks Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year and the 45 years since
diplomatic ties were first established between the two countries (June
24, 1967-2012), they also directed their ministries and agencies to work
closer with each other when organising events to celebrate
Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year.
Regarding border demarcation and marker planting, both leaders agreed
to continue implementing previously reached agreements and focus on
smoothing over any difficulties to speed up the completion of this work.
PM Dung stated that Vietnam supports this year’s theme of “ASEAN: one community, one destiny”, and said he is confident that Cambodia will successfully hold the ASEAN Summit and fulfill their obligations as ASEAN Chair, which will help to make the ASEAN Community a reality by 2015.
He thanked the Cambodian Government for creating the best possible
conditions for the Vietnamese community living there and suggested that
Cambodia continue to support Vietnamese people living and working in the
country.
PM Hun Sen said the country will do everything it can for Vietnamese
people and businesses in Cambodia and added that he hopes to receive
Vietnam ‘s support to successfully host the Year as Chair of ASEAN.
Later the same day, the Vietnamese PM joined with the heads of other
delegations to the 20 th ASEAN Summit at a banquet hosted by Cambodian
PM Hun Sen.
