BANGKOK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said Thursday that people will understand the need to enforce the Internal Security Act (ISA) at the ASEAN Summit's venues.
Thailand, the 2009 chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will host the 15th ASEAN Summit and related meetings on Oct. 23-25 in central beach resort town Cha-am and HuaHin.
"The people will understand that the ISA law is a preventive measure, which will facilitate security staff to ensure peace at the Summit," General Prawit was quoted by Thai language news agency Matichon Online as saying.
The government already sent officials to examine preparations of the Summit and its related meetings and also to explain the need of the ISA use, he said.
"If Thailand can successfully host this Summit, the country will gain trust (from the international community)," the minister said.
The ASEAN includes Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Brunei.
