Kampong Cham, Cambodia has seen a increase in the number of violent rape-murders. Adhoc reported that in the first months of 2009, 20 rape cases were reported and all but one of those rapes were against girls under the age of 18.
Last week an 11 year old girl was raped by a gang of 10 men and then murdered. The leader of the gang was allegedly her boyfriend who is said to have been in love with the victim but thought himself to be too poor to marry her.
The most recent victim was a 22 year old woman who was raped and killed on her coffee farm at about 7am on Tuesday. Police say that most of the rape-murders happen close to the home of the victim and are usually found by their families.
