A Brisbane Judge has jailed a woman who defrauded six people of more than $340,000 which she spent on gambling.
Prosecutor Dennis Kinsella told the District Court Angela Bamford, 41, committed the fraud offences over two years to 2007.
The Court heard she formed relationships with the complainants and convinced them to lend her money for property investments and to invest in a scheme to help foreigners secure Australian visas.
But Mr Kinsella said Bamford gambled almost all of the money.
Leon Ackermann representing Bamford said his client suffered abuse from an early age in a refugee camp after escaping from Cambodia, and started gambling to escape an abusive relationship with the father of her two children.
Judge Kerry O'Brien told Bamford she was a very deceitful person and jailed her for five years with a parole eligibility date in 2011.
