Seven representatives of the Thai Patriots Network have been allowed to visit a disputed border area wnear here seven Thais, including Democrat MP Panich Vikitsreth, were arrested by Cambodian troops, despite opposition from local residents of Sa Kaeo's Khok Sung district.

The representatives, led by M.L Walwipha Charoonrote and accompanied by about 30 reporters, were given 30 minutes to visit the border area, which they said was in Thai territory.

They were allowed in about 2.30pm following more than four hours of tense negotiations with Sa Kaeo governor Sanit Naksuksri, and 2nd Infantry Division commander Maj-Gen Walit Rojanapakdi.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, about 400 members of the yellow-shirt Thai Patriots Network were confrronted by about 200 villagers of Ban Nong Jarn, who opposed their visit.

Soldiers were deployed in the area to prevent the two sides from clashing.

Local residents say the "outsiders" will only cause them problems.
