Tens of thousands of people have taken their grievances against the government onto the streets of the Thai capital.
There were four different groups of protestors, with some of them united in their cause and hoping to gain a stronger voice. The Santi Asoke, the Thai Patriots and the Yellow shirts have voiced their opposition to the government's current stance on the border dispute with Cambodia.
The recent arrest of seven Thais, a member of Parliament included, by the Cambodian authority on grounds of trespassing through disputed territory has triggered the new wave of protests. They have set up camps and tents close to the government house and demand that the government immediately deport Cambodians living on the Thai side of the border and nullify existing agreements with the neighboring country. But when asked about the reasons of protests, Santi Asoke's spiritual leader only spoke in general terms.
The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) or Yellow Shirts were the strongest in attendance with at least ten thousand supporters. The leaders of the group explained that their motivation is not to instigate violence but to regain territory which they claim belongs to the Thais.
