Thai Patriot Networks to end rally if Veera, Ratree freed

The Thai Patriots Network (TPN) on Wednesday morning vowed to continue its rally outside Government House until TPN coordinator Veera Somkwamkid and his secretary Ratree Pipatanapaiboon are freed from Cambodia's Prey Sar prison.

Reports said supporters of the TPN - a yellow-shirt splinter group - had erected tents and set up food stalls in front of Government House and TPN core members had appeared on stage to talk about political issues.

The group announced that the rally will end immediately once Mr Veera and Mrs Ratree are released from Prey Sar prison.They are demanding the government do more to help free them.

Three companies of police were deployed to oversee security at the rally site.

Mr Veera and Mrs Ratree were among the seven Thais arrested by Cambodian soldiers in a disputed area of the border in Sa Kaeo province on Dec 29. They were allcharged with illegal engtry and trespassin a military area. The other five were gioven nine month jail terms, which were suspended, and then released toreturn hom.

Mr Veera and Mrs Ratree are also charged with espionage and remain in prison. Mr Veera was previously arrested for illegal entry into Cambodia and later released.
