Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee Convenes

BANGKOK, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting has officially begun, highlighting the issue of troop withdrawal from the vicinity of the Preah Vihear Temple in line with the July 18 order handed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The 15th RBC meeting was co-chaired by Thailand's Second Army Area Commander Lieutenant General Tawatchai Samutsakhon, and Cambodian Deputy Army Chief and Fourth Army Commander Lieutenant General Chea Mon, reports Thai News Agency (TNA).

Attending the RBC meeting at Sima Thani Hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima was also Cambodian Deputy Defence Minister General Neang Pha.

The RBC would discuss 15 issues including security affairs along the Thai-Cambodian border, highlighted by an informal discussion between the Thai and Cambodian sides regarding troop withdrawal from the vicinity of Preah Vihear Temple.

The meeting would also work out the framework of the next Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, which was slated for September in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
