With the approval from the government and land of 10,000 square meters in the east part of current national Olympic Stadium, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) will build a 7 floor building, a press release from the NOCC said on Tuesday.
The construction project will begin in early October, it said, adding that the sport complex will house other sport committees and other sport federations to promote good communication and cooperation. The building will also be used for international sport events.
In a letter signed by Thong Khon, tourism minister and chairman of the NOCC, the Phnom Penh governor was asked for intervention to help prepare the order for the construction of the NOCC building. The NOCC is currently based at Sam Pov Meas market.
“The market developer has to pay the compensation for us and we ask Phnom Penh authorities to seek another place for us to sell our clothes,” a vendor said tuesday.
Vendors banned NOCC officials, who planned to plant construction banners at the edge of market. Finally, NOCC officials planted their banners nearby.
The construction project will be conducted with South Korean developer, an NOCC official said on condition of anonymity.
