Prey Veng province primary school teachers are growing ever more desperate as their bonus wages still haven’t been paid by the Prey Veng Provincial Department of Education Youth and Sports (DEYS).
Preah Sdech district teacher Kong Dy told DAP News Cambodia that no teachers he knew had received bonus payments for teachin g on Thursdays.
“I do not like the department for this because we get lower salaries; we can only survive by taking additional jobs as well,” he added. He alleged that one DEYS official told him:
“Keep it secret: we have no money, we spent it all already.”“All Prey Veng Primary School’s teachers did not get yet,” Dy stressed.
Him Sophal, provincial DEYS director, did not reply to calls from DAP News Cambodia.
Vice DEYS Chief Kim Sokhom said that the department “set an account over year and they sent an announcement to all teachers, but no one heard about this.”
President of the Cambodian Independent Teacher’s Association (CITA) Rong Chhun (picture) told DAP News Cambodia that it is nearly enter in new academic year, so if there are no wages for Prey Veng techers, the department did not pay back is clearly involved in corruption.
