A message from SRP MP Mu Sochua

The lower court today gave me a guilty verdict and ordered me to pay a fine of the equivalent of US$4.500.

After hearing the verdict we lit a candle in front of the courthouse and marched it around the city, followed by hundreds of supporters.

There were more police than marchers. The police were very heavily armed and many of our supporters were brutally beaten. Our bodyguards were the first targets but our MPs and women supporters formed a human shield to protect them. It was very risky but we broke open many barricades and marched forward with me heading with the party leader as we were secured by police who made sure that we would not be touched. We were nevertheless pushed around severely as we were trying to defend our supporters from the brutality of the police.

It all ended well and we showed to the people that justice was not delivered and the fight will continue.

I will not pay the fine and my party agrees with my decision. I will appeal.

A bit bruised but in very good spirit.
