VietNamNet Bridge – In recent surveys conducted by international research firms, Vietnamese people appear as optimistic people who believe in better prospects in the future, though the economic downturn has badly affected the lives of many families.
Indochina Research has finished a survey on the impacts of the economic downturn on the incomes and spending of poor families in some big cities in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The conclusion the firm has made is that though being influenced by the economic downturn, poor households are still optimistic about economic prospects.
The surveyors selected 600 women of 25 years old and older at random from among families with the monthly incomes of less than $300 in Hanoi and HCM City in Vietnam, Phnom Penh in Cambodia and Vientiane in Laos.
Most of the polled people said the economic downturn was just temporary and believed that their incomes would be better next year.
