The senator representing Cambodia's Koh Kong has reportedly confirmed that the Cambodian government will reopen its territorial waters to Thai fishing boats tomorrow.
Trat Fisheries Association Chairman Thitikorn Lohakup revealed that he was informed by Cambodia's Koh Kong Senator Pad Supapa, who is also the owner of Koh Kong Resort Hotel, that the Cambodian government will reopen its territorial waters tomorrow.
Earlier, Cambodia called a meeting among the Koh Kong senator, Koh Kong governor, Koh Kong Immigration office chief, military and police officials as well as other related agencies to discuss regulations and procedures for reopening its territorial waters to allow Thai fishermen to continue fishing.
The meeting took more than three hours before they resolved that operators of Thai fishing vessels who want to fish in Cambodian waters must have a permit.
The permit can be obtained at a temporary operation centre opposite Koh Kong Resort Hotel in Sao Thong เสาธง district of Koh Kong province from 8 a.m. tomorrow onwards.
After having been informed of the reopening of the Cambodian waters, Thai fishermen were reportedly relieved after having docked their boats for more than two weeks.
